When decay breaks through enamel, the damaged part of the tooth needs to be removed and replaced with a filling. Done early, it’s a quick, comfortable visit — usually under an hour.
During the appointment
We start by numbing the area with a local anesthetic; a topical gel goes on first so even the injection is gentle. Once you’re comfortable, Dr. Simeon removes the decayed portion of the tooth, cleans the area, and places the filling material in layers, shaping it to match your natural bite. A small curing light hardens each layer. Finally, we check your bite and polish the surface smooth.
Modern tooth-colored (composite) fillings bond directly to the tooth and blend in — most people can’t find their own filling a week later.
Afterward
Numbness fades over two to three hours; be careful eating until it does, so you don’t bite your cheek. Mild sensitivity to cold or pressure for a few days is normal and settles on its own. If your bite feels even slightly “high” once the numbness wears off, call us — a 5-minute adjustment fixes it.
